The municipality of Dronten wants to offer a green loan to its residents. This advantageous loan can be taken out if you want to adapt the house in a sustainable way. The green loan, also known as a sustainability loan, can be applied for for the installation of solar panels, roof insulation or when the facade is insulated.

Alderman Ton van Amerongen indicated that 800,000 US dollars has already been reserved in the multi-year budget, about 200,000 US dollars per year. “We have 200,000 euros each year for these loans,” says Van Amerongen. “This makes us the second municipality in Flevoland after Lelystad to come up with such a sustainability loan. We are well ahead with that. ” The loans are likely to be offered at an interest rate of 1.5 to 2 percent. Loan repayment can vary depending on the amount borrowed.

The municipal council must first approve a regulation. Municipalities that want to provide sustainable loans must officially arrange this. In addition, a participation agreement must be entered into with Stichting Volkshuisvesting Nederlandse Gemeenten (SVn). Van Amerongen hopes that the council will give the green light for the sustainability loans in March.

Since 1 January 2012, it is no longer possible to take out a green loan in Belgium. In the Netherlands, not all municipalities offer the option of taking out a green loan through their own municipality. However, it is possible to take out a green loan through Prida Cash Lender or MyCredit Lender , for example.
