Municipalities have previously opted to no longer intervene when carrying out various renovations. A well-known example is the installation of a stair lift. Because the municipality no longer wants to intervene in the costs, a new solution was urgently needed. Limburg is now taking the lead in this area and offers people over 55 the option of taking out a loan for an amount of at least 2,500 US dollars.

Financing for various renovations
The amount of credit that can be granted is between a minimum of 2,500 and a maximum of 25,000 US dollars. In addition, the loan granted by Limburg would be about 3 percent lower than comparable standard loans at an ordinary financial institution. This lower interest rate makes it possible for the elderly to make various adjustments in a financially interesting manner, such as having the doors widened and the removal of thresholds.

Reimbursements from municipalities increasingly limited
Various municipalities have opted in recent months and years to significantly reduce the fees for making a home life-cycle proof. This meant, among other things, that a 90-year-old man from Alphen aan den Rijn, for example, could not claim a (partial) compensation for having a stairlift installed in his home. This caused a lot of commotion at national level, which raised the issue even more.
